Good morning, bookish friends! I think we all know that I am a mood reader to my core, so it’s super silly of me to even try to make a TBR that I’ll stick to, but alas, I also love a good list. So, here’s a (hopefully) good list of some (hopefully) good books that I hope to read in the first half of 2023. What books are at the top of your TBR? Share below!
Consider the Fork: A History of How We Cook and Eat* by Bee Wilson - This is for a local book club I’m hoping to join.
The Africa Cookbook: Tastes of a Continent by Jessica B. Harris - I’m trying the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge this year and this is one of my picks for that. Check back later for all the books I want to read to complete the challenge.
Beowulf - This is for another book club I want to join. Do I have time for all this? No. But does hope spring eternal? I guess.
The Teacher’s Room by Lydia Stryk - I received an e-ARC of this from Edelweiss and Bywater books, and it was chosen for the “Follower’s Pick My TBR” for January - insert shameless plug for my Instagram here.
Spare by Prince Harry - I’ve seen so much hype about this book, and I feel like I have a budding obsession with the royal family that this book will send into a full blown obsession.
A Minor Chorus by Billy-Ray Belcourt - This is the January pick for the Indigenous Reading Circle book group on Instagram and I’ve found their picks to be absolutely incredible.
The Writing Retreat by Julia Bartz - I received an e-ARC of this from NetGalley and Atria Books, and as is always the case, I am sooooo behind on my ARCs. Hopefully 2023 is the year that I catch up.
The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty - see explanation for #7
Glory by NoViolet Bulawayo - I DNF’d this book in 2022 because I just wasn’t in the headspace to be reading anything as in-depth or heavy, but I truly did feel like in a different point of my life, this book would become a favorite. Here’s hoping that point is sometime soon!
Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart - I’ve heard comparisons to A Little Life and I feel like I need a good heart wrenching novel in my life right about now.
Siren Queen by Nghi Vo - I ordered this book months ago with my BOTM subscription and the cover is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve heard the story inside is just as incredible. I don’t know why I haven’t picked it up yet, but I plan to remedy that soon.
Lady Justice: Women, the Law, and the Battle to Save America by Dahlia Lithwick - I received an e-ARC of this book from the Edelweiss platform and Penguin Press and as both a woman and a public defender (and someone who is SO BEHIND on her ARCs), I feel particularly invested in this topic.
Minor Detail by Adania Shibli - This book has been on the backburner for me for so long, but it also seems so fascinating and dark. It’s also a pretty short read, so I don’t know why I find it so daunting.
