Happy almost February, bookish friends! How was the first month of 2022? My 2022 has already been an emotional roller coaster. I had one of the worst weeks I’ve ever had at my job, followed by a weekend conference for work that reaffirmed my passion for what I’m doing. Talk about emotional whiplash.
As a result, my reading has been…inconsistent, at best. So, without further ado, here are my January 2022 stats:
Books read: 4 (ish)
Books DNF’d (at least for now): 1
Favorite book: The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara**
**Okay, so full disclosure - I haven’t actually finished this one yet, but I’m hoping to before the month actually ends. And, as per usual, I am obsessed with Yanagihara. So, even though I’m not done yet, it’s definitely been my favorite reading experience of the month so far. This was also one of the books from my Instagram Followers Pick My TBR poll (shameless plug for my Instagram, that you can find here).
And how about those goals for February?
Well, friends, I think it’s pretty clear by now that I am physically, emotionally, and psychologically incapable of following a TBR. But, I’m also a goal-oriented person. (There’s probably a contradiction there, but I don’t have enough emotional insight to tell you what it means.) So, here are my goals for February:
To Read:
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng (I selected this book for a reading challenge hosted by KDBooks on Youtube meant to help folks tackle their TBRs…and immediately forgot to read it. Whoops)
Redeployment by Phil Kay (this and my next pick were picked for Rick MacDonell’s TBR Spin and I’m hoping to read them before the next spin)
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
Loud Black Girls: 20 Black Women Writers Ask: What’s Next? (My February 2022 Followers Pick My TBR poll)
To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara (please read my previous incessesent fangirl ramblings to understand just how much I adore Yanagihara’s writing)
Just Pursuit by Laura Coates (I received a free e-ARC of this book from the publisher, Simon & Schuster, through the NetGalley platform, in exchange for an honest review)
Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward
To Finish:
This Close to Okay by Leesa Cross-Smith
House Number 12 Block Number 3 by Sana Balagamwala (I received a free e-ARC of this book from the publisher, Hidden Shelf Publishing House, through the NetGalley platform, in exchange for an honest review)
Will I read all of these? No. Will I read any of them? Here’s hoping, but historically speaking, I’m not sure the odds are all that great.
