#readwithLLM: Babel

Writer's picture: Little Literary MomentsLittle Literary Moments

Well friends, this is a few days later than I planned, but better late than never, right? I am absolutely obsessed with Babel * and wanted to give it the thoughtfulness it deserved, and recently my brain has been struggling. But, after a few days off work, I was finally able to gather my thoughts, and now I can’t wait to hear yours.

Here's what I envision with these posts. I've come up with a few questions that I would love your thoughts on, but I also want to open up the comments for any questions or thoughts you have. I do reserve the right to remove any comments that are offensive or hateful, because my goal is to foster a community of readers here, where folks are encouraged to share their thoughts and literary experiences.

So, without further ado, here are my questions and curiosities:

  1. Fantasy readers!!! What do you think of the magic system in this book? Does it make sense? Is it consistent throughout? Tell me your thoughts!

  2. What are your thoughts on the structure of this novel? Length? Use of footnotes sprinkled throughout? The interludes throughout the novel that focus on the perspective of Ramy, Letty, and Victoire?

  3. Is violence necessary for change?

  4. What does Letty’s betrayal symbolize?

  5. The fall of Babel seems to be inevitable - after all, its namesake fell as well. What does the fall of this Babel symbolize? And what does Victoire’s escape and survival symbolize?

  6. Will you read the other books by Kuang? Have you already?
