Friends! We’ve made it through another month. Which means another #readwithLLM discussion post! Soooooo….what did y’all think of My Brilliant Friend*??? I ended up loving it, but also being surprised by it. I’m not sure what I anticipated this book being, but it was definitely something different. Keep reading for my questions and I hope you’ll share your thoughts in the comments.
Here's what I envision with these posts. I've come up with a few questions that I would love your thoughts on, but I also want to open up the comments for any questions or thoughts you have. I do reserve the right to remove any comments that are offensive or hateful, because my goal is to foster a community of readers here, where folks are encouraged to share their thoughts and literary experiences.
So, without further ado, here are my questions and curiosities:
What does education symbolize in this novel? Does its symbolism shift depending on which character is the lens for education in that moment?
What forms of violence exist in this novel? How did each character experience violence and trauma, and how did that propel the plot?
Is this a novel about war? About poverty? About violence? About friendship? All of the above? None of the above?
“My brilliant friend” is a quote from the book, but also the title. What is its significance?
Will you read the rest of the series?
Will you watch the series?
