#readwithLLM: Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke
Hiya bookish friends! Are you ready to discuss one of the most controversial books published so far this year? Spoiler alert…I HATED this book, but I think that probably leads to some fascinating discussions. And the book in question? Yesteryear* by Caro Claire Burke.
Here's what I envision with these posts. I've come up with a few questions that I would love your thoughts on, but I also want to open up the comments for any questions or thoughts you have. I do reserve the right to remove any comments that are offensive or hateful, because my goal is to foster a community of readers here, where folks are encouraged to share their thoughts and literary experiences.
So, without further ado, here are my questions and curiosities:
This novel follows two “timelines” (SPOILER…kind of?): is there one that was better written or where the characters were more developed?
The movie rights for this book have already been purchased. How, if at all, does the movie industry influence the book industry? And vice versa?
This novel reveals the hypocrisy of “tradwife” content online. Is this an accurate commentary? A fair one? How does the online landscape promote or dispel toxic lifestyles?
Part of the reason I hated this book was that it seemed, at times, to be an amalgamation of Ballerina Farms and the Franke family, both (in my opinion, for legal purposes, though I think the Franke case is particularly obvious) are exploitative of the children in their families? Do you agree? If so, does this book perpetuate that exploitation?
Will you watch the movie when it comes out?
This is the author’s first novel. Will you read others if she continues to write?
